Day 2

Subject: Do you know the difference between strategy and tactics, [firstname]?

Hi [firstname],

I'm sure you've heard the terms “strategy” and “tactics” banded about. A lot of people think they mean the same thing, but they are in fact very different.

According to businessdictionary.com a strategy is:

“1. A method or plan chosen to bring about a desired future, such as achievement of a goal or solution to a problem.
2. The art and science of planning and marshalling resources for their most efficient and effective use.”

Whereas the same website defines tactics as:

“Means by which a strategy is carried out; planned and ad hoc activities meant to deal with the demands of the moment, and to move from one milestone to other in pursuit of the overall goal(s). In an organization, strategy is decided by the board of directors, and tactics by the department heads for implementation by the junior officers and employees.”

To put it another way: Your strategy is what you want to do and tactics are how you're going to do it.

So you have to decide on your strategy first, then work out how you're going to implement it.

A good way to do this, is to define your objective (and, as you'll discover tomorrow, there are lots of outcomes you can achieve through content marketing) and work backwards from there to now. Not only does that mean your strategy will be successful, but it also means you can factor in a “Plan B” at the same time – useful when deciding on your tactics. It also means that if your strategy isn't going to work, you can “fail” on paper before you start committing resources like time and money on it.

Warmly,

[Your Name]

PS. You don't have to commit a lot of time to implementing your content marketing strategy. My blueprint shows you how to do it in 30 days or less. Find out more here: [link to sales page].
